In our travels = we recovered several unknowns and only through O-isotopes could we = determine if they were manmade, terrestrial or meteorites. We recovered a stone with native iron in it and thought for sure it was = a meteorite. Since it would have been fantastic we held off announcing = it until the O-isotopes were completed. Luckily we did because it saved = us the embarrassment of presenting a meteorite to the public only to = have it turn out to be terrestrial. =20 On another occasion we thought we had recovered an extremely rare = primitive achondrite. Further study proved it to be a recrystallized = chondrite from the LL parent body. If we had sold any of this material = before waiting for the O-isotope results as a primitive achondrite we = would have owed a lot of people money. =20 On more than one occasion we were fooled by manmade objects with = beautiful fusion crusts and textures. Through proper scientific study = we were able to expose these fake meteorites and shared our findings = with several dealers to make sure they were not burned. One dealer = thought we were trying to prevent him from buying the material so that = we could have it all to ourselves and bought some anyway. Needless to = say he wasted several thousand dollars. Sometimes the pressure is great to sell material before it is completely = tested or a proper scientific abstract is submitted. If something turns = out to be manmade or terrestrial and is sold to collectors as meteorites = I feel the purchasers should be refunded in full. =20 By the way, we have heard some of this talk about Shirokovsky from well = informed sources, as well. That is why we are being patient about = purchasing any of it. We will wait for the O-isotope tests to be = completed.=20 All the best, Adam and Greg Hupe IMCA 2185 =20 ------=_NextPart_000_0BCC_01C30C1C.C7389E60 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2919.6307" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>Hi Gregory, Hello List,</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2>This demonstrates the importance of = O-isotope=20 testing.
