Pathetic if = you ask me. You should see the Moroccan scales, old levers with = hand-made lead weights with gram weights on them. The oldest scam in the = book, overweighing produce. That is why I now have left 2 digital scales = in Morocco permanantly to have them when I am there, you should see the = hassles trying to take digital scales through customs! If you want to = use Moroccan scales, good luck and God be with you.=20 Mike Farmer ----- Original Message -----=20 From: MARK BOSTICK=20 To: fcressy ; Meteorite List=20 Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2002 3:35 PM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] NWA 482 questions Hello List, Thank you Eric for your straight answer. I am sure many others had = heard the same thing so if I was wrong for bringing it up, I apologize. = Also I would like to add to Mike, that my e-mail was not meant as an = attack on you and I did not mean it to come off that way, if it did. = There have been many rumors n the NWA482, this one I had heard several = times so I was wondering and what better place to ask then the list? I = am going to drop all of this, not that I was trying to start anything, = for the benifit of the list. =20 Now to comment on Frank's e-mail.... "Either that or the broken scale Mark salvaged from the trash last = year in Tucson" I forgot about that scale. That was funny. A scale of mine broke in = Tuscon so we went out and purchased another one locally. During the = last weekend of the meteorite part of the show, the Arizona Scale Police = came by. Even though the scale was in the trash and broken, it was not = an authorized scale. So they pulled it out of the trash and put a label = on it that said among other things, that I could not dispose of the = scale. So I couldn't throw it away legally in Arizona. Figure that one = out. Just so we're clear, there are = no >accusations here, only questions. Anyone reading the Meteoritical >Bulletins should be just as perplexed as I. --Rob The website set up by the Hupes, www.lunarrock.com, covers this. The = main mass is 312 grams, is owned by the Hupes, and I believe it is still = on display at the University of Washington in Seattle. Hope this helps. Incidently, several photos of the meteorite prior to cutting are = displayed on the above mentioned website. A small window maybe the size of a = dime is present. Certainly 250 grams was not lost. I suspect the 1278 gram = figure Mark alluded to came from the sellers antique postal scale. Guess = there are sellers weights and buyers weights. Either that or the broken scale = Mark salvaged from the trash last year in Tucson was used ;-) Regards, Frank ______________________________________________ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list ------=_NextPart_000_0020_01C280F7.ED9C0DE0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Diso-8859-1"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.50.4134.600" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY=20 style=3D"BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; FONT: 10pt = verdana; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none"=20 bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial>He he, I never heard that story, but that is a = good one.=20 yep, Tucson is getting horrible when it comes to scales and the Gem = show.=20 Pathetic if you ask me.
