Hello Stan,

Check out the "References" on this web page:

http://minerals.gps.caltech.edu/FILES/VARNISH/Index.htm

The study of "desert varnish" has waned in recent
years and it is difficult to find references to recent
papers. This subject has been very controversial in
the past and still carries a stigma which can be
detrimental to the careers of some researchers.

Hi,
Is there anyone out there who is an expert on
"Desert Varnish". How long it takes to form and what
causes it? Is it typical in all desert
environments?
Thanks,
Stan Szalkowski
