I must say that I am somewhat embarrassed to say that Dr. Kring emailed me this morning to say that the slice had somehow been stained and is not carbonaceous. At the time I got it I hadn't seen many Gold Basin slices and all I knew was that there was a large black area on it that looked kind of unusual to my untrained eye. I have no doubt what so ever about what Dr. Kring told me but I am now wondering what would cause the dark areas in this chondrite? I may make many mistakes (such as this one) but I always try to learn from them so I don't do it again.
