In a nutshell we may confidently turn our attention to
H. Y. McSween's concise description in the glossary
of his "Meteorites and Their Parent Planets" (p. 288):

"A rock composed of broken rock fragments (clasts)
cemented together by finer-grained material; a common
product of i m p a c t processes".
