Having been to both the Field Museum in Chicago and just recently to the Institute of Meteoritics in Albuquerque, I was told by the curators in both cases the number of current specimens in the collections of each. For the Field a total of 1400 now exist and for the Institute of Meteoritics in Albuquerque a total of over 600. Of course they are always loaning specimens for research and the total on the premises differs. For you number buffs. 6.
