Well, you have to consider it was a witnessed fall from 1815,
and the field of meteoritrics was in its infancy then. Also,
of course, it was not suspected of being a Mars meteorite back
then either - that came much, much later. It was probably
treated an ordinary meteorite, nothing special, and portions
of it was carelessly lost or misplaced. Or perhaps
mislabeled.

There is always a chance of that, if the museum didn't
accidently throw it out.
