He is visting JPL for a few days. He gave a talk last night to the JPL community, and here's the ad on the talk. Ron Baalke ---------------------------------------------------------- "Brother Astronomer: Adventures of a Vatican Scientist" with Brother Guy Consolmagno Curator of the Vatican Meteorite Collection Date: Tuesday, April 16 Time: 4:45 p.m. Place: von Karman Auditorium How did a young American planetary scientist become the curator of a world-class meteorite collection at the Vatican Observatory? For that matter, how did the Vatican come to have a meteorite collection, and an observatory, in the first place? The history of the Vatican Observatory, and the personal history of its meteorite curator, takes us from the Tower of the Winds to the wind-swept East Antarctic Plateau. Br. Guy Consolmagno will pre- sent his unique perspective on the Vatican's role in astronomy and his worldly journeys to understand the solar system. Br. Guy Consolmagno SJ (PhD) is curator of the Vatican Meteorite Collection and author of the popular books "Turn Left at Orion" (with Dan M. Davis), "The Way to the Dwelling of Light," and "Brother Astronomer." Received on Wed 17 Apr 2002 03:24:04 PM PDT |
