[meteorite-list] RE: New York "meteor" 1907

These are the NY meteorites I know of. If anyone has others to add please
list them!

Bethlehem - Albany County. Syn. Albany Co.;Troy
   Stone. Olivine-bronzite-chondrite. (H-?) Witnessed fall on August 11th
1859. Total known weight 11 grams. *

Burlington, Otsego County. Syn. Cooperstown; Otsego County
   Iron, medium octahedrite. Found before 1819. A mass weighing approx. 150
Lbs. Was ploughed up but only about 12 Lbs. has been preserved. *

Cambria, near Lockport, Niagara County. Syn. Lockport
   Iron, Fine Octahedrite. Found in 1818 while cultivating a field.
Irregular, elongated shape 18 inches long and 5.5 inches wide. Trolite
nodules occurred in the interior. See "Part II. Digest of Memoirs and
Notices published during the years 1869-75, and relating to meteorites found
before the end of 1868." On Meteors and meteorites CD-ROM, Page 105 *

Lasher Creek, Montgomery County - 42=B0 50' N - 074=B0 30' W - Find 1948

Mount Morris, Livingston County
  Stone, Olivine bronzite chondrite. (H-?) A mass of 12 =BD grams was found=
 in
1897 on the Lander's farm, 1 =BD miles of Mt. Morris. *

Peekskill=20
  Stone, H6. An 11 Kilogram mass fell and struck a Chevy Malibu on October
9th 1992 at 1950EDT. Penetrating the trunk and forming a small crater under
the car. The car was bought from the owner (Michelle Knapp) for $69,000.
The meteor was videotaped by at least 15 different cameras and witnessed by
dozens of people along the East Coast. The meteor exploded into many
fragments (70 possibly) before hitting the ground. One mass 12,370g and
fragments totaling 200g.=20

Schenectady, Schenectady County
  Stone, H4 chondrite. Fell on April 12th 1968 at 8:30pm. A 283.3 grams H4
Stone was found 2 days later. Damaged the roof of Joseph W. Kowalski *

Scriba, Oswego County - 43=B0 27' N - 076=B0 26' W - Find - Pseudometeorite

Seneca falls, Seneca County .syn. Seneca river
   Iron, Medium Octahedrite. 9 pound specimen found in 1850 while digging a
ditch on a farm on the cayuga side of the Seneca river. Approx. 4 inches in
diameter and 7 inches long. *

South Byron, Genesee County
  Iron, Nickel-rich Ataxite. 6 kg mass found in 1915 by a farmer escavating
a ditch about a =BD mile west of South Byron. *

Tomhannock Creek, Renssalaer County .syn. Ironhannock Creek, Rensselaer Co.
  Stone, Brecciated Olivine-bronzite-chondrite. H-5. A mass of 1 =BD kg
discovered about 1863 near the base of a large tree on the bank of the
Tomhannock Creek. *

Yorktown, Westchester County
  Stone, Olivine-hypersthene chondrite. L-5 Fell in September of 1869. A
mass weighing =BD kg was found. *
