Dean and list,

My wife and I also sell on Ebay and we are experiencing the same time =
delays in the other direction from the US to Canada. We called the =
Customs agencies for both countries and it was explained that every =
package is being opened and inspected.

We have heard from several of our Canadian customers and they have said =
that the items that are arriving have been completely unpacked, =
unwrapped and then put back into boxes and closed with tape. In MOST =
cases without any of the packing materials in the box. AIR MAIL is =
taking 5 weeks in some cases.

Since we deal in mainly really breakable item, glass porcelain, and =
antiques we have discontinued all international bidding on our auctions =
for the time being. We have had some very old and expensive items barely =
make it and figured we better not push our luck, so as of 10/10/01 no =
more international buyers.=20

ON the other end of the SPECTRUM, we bid on some very nice caviar from =
the Ukraine last week at a very good price and it arrived...in 5 =
days...COMPLETELY UNOPENED!

Go figure...how is it that a former Cold War enemy state can ship to the =
USA a package without delay or inspection and a long time neighbor and =
friendly nation gets such scrutiny?

Sometimes our governments go to work with their shoes on the wrong feet.

explosives and anthrax. The post offices in canada all have signs up =
saying that they do not currently guarantee the delivery times of their =
guaranteed delivery type mail to the US (Not that they do anyway - but =
thats another matter). I am assured that all mail is safe and will =
eventually arrive. It just taking a bit longer than normal for it to get =
to its destination. I have not experienced a slowdown in my mail to =
Europe.=20

  So do keep bidding in my auctions. But give it a few days extra to get =
to you. At least you know that mail coming from canada is safe. The =
majority of my mail is still arriving in the normal amount of time.
