There are stores/companies that sell new and used scopes in many larger metro areas....strange, since you usually need to get away from those areas to really appreciate the instrument after you buy it. Most of them will gladly help new buyers choose a scope that's in line with what you may want to do. Check out Astronomy and/or Sky and Telescope for possible locations near you.
