(New Campo? Hmmmm!) It may = or may not be only skin deep. I had one that seemed very bad, oozing = much, but once I sliced it, the slices refused to rust. Soak it in 99% isopropyl alcohol (rather inexpensive, but don't go to = the cheap store brands with large water content. Order from the = pharmacy.) Change the alcohol as soon as it turns reddish. Eventually, = after several changings, (days to weeks) it will leach out the = chlorides and will stop. Don't coat it. That will only seal in everything that is trying to get = out, and it will destroy itself internally which is what happened to = your Nantan, although with those you don't have to seal them. They will = self-destruct on their own. You can give it a brisk wire-brushing every once in awhile to get the = loose scale off. That will make it more attractive.
