Hi Frank and List, The Leonids are among the fastest of all meteors. They plunge into the Earth's upper atmosphere at about 72 km/s - multiple times the speed of a rifle bullet (!) > many bright greenish streaks that lasted a couple of seconds. These are associated with a previously unknown dust band which has been shepherded into a narrow stream by Jupiter's gravity.
