A number of people phoned police in Christchurch and Greymouth as intense white and orange lights blazed across the skies this afternoon [Dec. 29]. The lights were followed by a dust trail, which a spokesman at the Mt John Observatory in Tekapo says is typical of a meteorite. The pilot of a 737 jet en route to Australia reported seeing the blazing lights at 38,000 feet Received on Sat 30 Dec 2000 05:21:16 PM PST |
