And, even given Velikovsky's wild theories,
from the perspective of the History of Science,
what has become known as the Velikovsky Affair is one of the low-lights
of 20th century science. Threats of boycotting a publisher if they
dared to publish his writings, the Sagan-Velikovsky debate in which
Sagan treated the by-then old man as a prop for a Sagan comedy routine,
etc. Unlike Bruno, at least the powers that be stopped short of burning
him at the stake.
