Re: Microscope question

I've been looking for a microscope for a number of years, and these
are the features I've been looking for:

o Stereo zoom with magnification range from 10x to 100x
o Camera adaptor, a trinocular configuration preferred
o Fiber optic lighting, on dual gooseneck arms
 o Camera with mirror lock

In addition to using to viewing meteorites, I would use it
to view insects from my amber collection. I would definitely want to
be able to view at 100x magnification. I would also want to make sure that
what I see through the eyepieces is exactly what the camera sees, which
I understand is not the case with all photo microscopes.
The reason for the fiber optic lighting is that it is easier to position,
and does not give off any heat, unlike the other types of lighting, though
you do pay for it in price (adds about another $350). Also, it is absolutely
essential that the camera has a mirror lock capability. This is crucial when
taking any closeup photos, because it will ensure that there is no camera
shake when the shutter is released, and the photos will come out
much sharper.

I have found a microscope that meets all of these requirements: Meiji
microscopes. However, the setup costs around $1800, and does not include the
camera, but I have the camera already. The microscopes I've
seen offered by the meteorite dealers are a good value for the money, but
it didn't quite have all of the features I was looking for. If I wanted
to compromise a little and not get the zoom feature, and settle for
a little less magnification, and confirm the camera included has mirror lock,
then I may consider it.
