Subject: RE: New CA find by Art
I searched in the Pinto Mtns near 29 Palms one morning in the late 1960s. I
remember what seemed to be billions of jagged loose rocks of various dark
colors everywhere on steep slopes. By noon, I had had it with rocks
everywhere, and headed for Lucerne Dry Lake where I would be hard put to
find any rocks of any kind. Other times I would start the day or weekend on
a dry lake and end up heading for the surrounding mountains so I could see
some rocks before the outing ended. From one extreme to the other, looking
for a compromise area with a few rocks here and a few rocks there. So, I'm
plenty impressed by Art's find. By the way, there is sometimes an advantage
to older maps, as sometimes they show older landmarks and historical spots,
that are still findable, but have been dropped from the newer maps.
