It was a 7.1, epicentered just north of Twenty-nine Palms, in the Mojave.
An Amtrak train derailed & caused minor injuries to 4, that's the only
report of injury I've heard. 7.1 is pretty big, but fortunately the epicenter
was fairly distant from major metropolitan areas. It was felt in
Phoenix, too, though.
For us hardened LA-earthquake veterans, (including those of us who
actually travel TO them, ala the World Series in San Francisco 1989)
it was just one of those wake-up-and-roll-around-a-little-and-go-back-to-sleep
type things. Ho hum. Such is life in La La Land, aka the "Shake 'n Bake
Capitol" of the good ol' US of A.
