Yes, I've been reading about ball lightning stories for many years - it's a
weird ball of plasma that bounces over and/or through obstacles for a few
seconds before exploding with a loud bang. There's been attempts at at
reproducing it in the lab with huge racks of lead-acid submarine batteries
producing extremely high current, low voltage discharges and lots of sparks,
but nothing conclusive.
Interestingly, most reports place it at very low altitude or actually at
ground level, so it's probably some localised effect caused by the actual
lightning strike nearby....if it exists at all!
