Re: Day 3, will John Blennert live in Holbrook?

I agree wholeheartedly! I couldn't have asked for better company or a
better time, that's for sure. I look forward to many more hunts with
these guys, and I am thankful they didn't make me "walk the plank" for
being such a lousy guide.
Incidentally, when I uploaded the picture so John B. could share an
image of his find (without an attachment), he had no idea I put a little
congratulatory note with it. That was my doing, which he very much
deserves. Holbrook isn't an easy field to find meteorites. On two
trips there, we put in approx. 128 combined manhours with detectors and
magnetic canes. Between us all, we came home with just a little over 70
grams total for both trips. Not to mention, the many solo hunts I've
done there, I was skunked.
BTW-All of our finds were with John Gwilliam's Meteorite Canes (pardon
the shameless plug, but they are very nice and they work quite well.
I'll never part with mine.)

Which brings me to the question: Can someone tell me the total Fe and
Ni content of Gold Basin and Holbrook meteorites? The Holbrooks seem
much lower in metal content when using a metal detector, but are both
classified as L's. I've polished a couple of GB endpieces that I found,
and I've seen Vaca Muertas (MES) with about equal amounts of metal.
In closing, I want to thank the list for letting us try to inject a
little humor and camaraderie to their INBOX.
Have a good one in whatever you do.

Dave
