Re: Legally.blah blah...Heres what to do!!!

Its funny that you should bring up stamps and coins and the problems of
fakes with them. I happen to collect ancient coins, and there is a debate
going on right now in the ancient coin community in regards to a company
that wants to "slab" ancient coins for people. That would involve
authenticating, grading, and sealing the coins up tight. Sounds like a good
idea? Well, the majority of collectors, about 95% are totally against it.
Why? Opinions vary on coins authentication and grading vary. In collecting
ancient coins, I rely on dealers reputations, return policies, reference
material, and if I'm going to sink a large amount of money into one coin, I
would send it to one of the premier ancient coin authorities, David Sear,
and have him authenticate it. Here is my suggestions for some enterprising
entrepreneur.....Print up a small booklet, local Kinkos could probably do
it. List everything in regards to detecting fake meteorites. Show
examples of fakes. Cover everything from magnets to porosity. Even make it
simple as to instructing people into verifing return policies. Give the
address of Rubin at UCLA and some others people who can test it. Stick it
on ebay, and sell them at a modest profit. It should go over well I would
think and would be out there for the new beginners.
