Hello John,
You did not miss anything yet, Tomorow night is the night!!!
For taking pictures, you should take a wide angle objective, something like
a 28, 35 or 50mm lens. Your camera should be on a tripod and your camera
equiped with a cable release.
The best film would be a 400 speed film and your time exposure can vary
from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, it all depend on the amount of light
pollution you have in your area. the more light pollution you have, the
less time exposition you should make. If your doing your photos from a dark
site, you can expose for 30 minutes no problem.
Good luck and if you ever get good pictures, please let us know.
PS: When starting a roll of film, for your first shot, always take a
picture of anything but dark skies (take a picture of your house or
something) because when you bring your roll to the photoshop and if you
only have dark frames on your roll, the technicians at the shop might cut
anywhere and ruinning your pictures and tell them that you photographed
stars, so they can adjust the density of their machine properly.
