Just as a point of order, when a buyer's bid doesn't meet the seller's
reserve, the seller is not COMPELLED to sell the item, but he can
certainly CHOOSE to sell, if he wants to.
And I would guess that THIS particular story would be a case in
point. I imagine that this seller is probably really ready to get out from
under all the fuss about this item, and probably would have
WELCOMED the opportunity to quietly sell to the highest bidder
after the auction, to END the whole thing, even if the reserve wasn't met.
But this time, everybody, including the would-be buyer, is now suddenly
concerned with a pesky little detail like AUTHENTICITY, and it's in large
part due to the many list-members who volunteered their time and thoughts.
