Hi Al and others,
What you said is very true, but when it gets right down to it, analysis
has to be done. I bought a possible meteorite one time, took a chance on
it. I sent the scans to the best dealers i know, who are on this list. One
dealer said "it looks like Glorittia" (sp?), another dealer said "it looks
good to me" and the last dealer said "only way you can be sure is to have it
checked" and he told me where to send it. It was slag. But you are right,
the people you mentioned would know a meteorite it they could get their
hands on the specimen and slice it open, or in some cases, without slicing
it open.
