Jan 21 Fireball
Dear Stu and list,
here is some additional information on the January 21 fireball, that
was catched by several professional fisheye cameras of the "European
Network of Fireball Photography and Meteorite Recovery". This network
is operated by the Czech Academy of Sciences, Institute of Astronomy,
Ondrejov (near Prague). The former Director of this project was the
well-known Dr. Zdenek Ceplecha, now it is operated by Dr. Pavel Spurny.
Reduction of simultaneous photos of this event led to the conclusion
that a small mass (some hundred grams) may have landed near the
Czech-Poland border. No meteorites have been found there so far. The
mass is too tiny to make systematic searches. The magnitude of the
fireball was about -18!
