I am told that older B&W vidicon tube cameras are highly sensitive to IR.
In fact, so the story goes, in normal usage they were delivered with a
filter to cut out IR. If so, if you replace this with a filter blocking
visible and passing IR, this might be a substitute for the so-called X-Ray
chip. Then, of course, there are the old IR Sniperscopes...
