Bill's statement is so interesting, and I suspect that it's a feeling which
many other collectors share.
I did an interview with Dr. Alan Rubin (UCLA) in the
last Meteorite Magazine, and one of the topics I wanted to explore was
the fairly strong resentment that some/many scientists and institutions have
for the
collector/dealer community at large. And one of the *main* reasons Rubin
gave,
as a justification, was the idea that collectors could not, or would not,
care for
the specimens as carefully as an institution.
The fact that there is friction between the two "sides" is not overly
surprising,
since, by nature, they sometimes work at cross-purposes to each other, but I
do think
it's curious that each side has the perception that the *other* guys are
problematic,
when it come to the physical welfare of specimens.
