It does look very similar to quartz, or maybe a septarian geode. But, i guess we'll never know.

Well let me wade in.... I am voting that it is a hematite-class mineral with calcite or possible halite in the cavity. Agreements /disagreements? It is an attractive stone but ---looks like the first "meteorite" I was offered when I was a kid.... Regards, Elton Jones
