Hello list members, I grow weary of defending myself and my actions in
public but please try to imagine how you would feel if people who you
have never met were saying things that were quite false. I want to meet
Geoff some day, maybe in Denver next week? then with a face maybe we
can curb out tempers a little. I agree with Geoff that this list is an
open forum, which should be uncensored but used with some care and
courtesy. The shot was taken that I "knew about the metal-rich type
Portales specimens but sold the stone portions for alot of money" This
statement is quite true literally but false in the premise that
something was being hidden from buyers. Once again I invite all to
cruise the list archive to see my postings around the date of June 20th
or so. You seem to imply that the stone portion is worth less
monetarily and scientifically than the metal rich pieces. I do agree
that they are a little "boring" when viewed next to the others but they
are Portales Valley and since there are two types, both are integral
parts of this meteorite. I appreciate Stuarts and Steve, and happily
try to do good whenever I can. Stuart and Steve share their specimens
with the world and I am proud to be able to supply them if I can. I
will be putting a large portion of my small collection on display next
to many of Bob Haags donated and loaned specimens at the University of
Arizona Planetarium (the one that Richard Norton built). Every day while
at school, I see busloads of children from New Mexico and Arizona pull
up for their planetarium tours. I cant wait to go and watch them look at
my specimens and see their reactions. I actually bought my first
meteorite (an 80 gram canyon Diablo there) over 12 years ago. I still
have it too!
Second, I love Michael Blood's idea. It would be so cool to get together
and have meteorite shows and activities. I do believe that this is the
goal of the Gifhorn show in November. I will attend this show and can't
wait to do my first real show on the road. I certainly can't even come
close to Michael Casper or Marvin Kilgore, Bob Haag etc., but that is
not my goal, my goal is to have fun, meat people, sell some specimens,
buy some more new ones, and basically be immersed in meteorites.
Michael, I am so glad you got the Pasamante specimen. I know the feeling
of pure elation at holding something that you personally find desirable
for whatever reason. I anxiously await the photo of it so we can share
your good fortune and specimen. Please bring it to Denver.
Let up please continue our discussions here, even our arguments, but
let's try to keep it clean when possible.
Thanks and good night.
Mike Farmer
