Hello All,
Back in July, Jim Hurley was asking about the Semarkona LL3.0 chondrite. I
have a photograph of this amazing stone in the current (Nov 98) issue of
Meteorite! magazine. I believe Semarkona is the only known LL3.0.
When you look at Semarkona in person, it makes other LL3s such as Ragland
pale (or at least lighten) in comparison. The chondrules in Semarkona are
so distinct and abundant that you can get lost in this chondrite like one
of those 3-D visual puzzles (random-dot scattergrams to those more
scientifically inclined).
The Semarkona chondrite is not as colorful as the other LL3s so even though
the photograph in M! is in black and white, there is little difference
between the actual specimen's color and the photograph's.
Happy viewing.
Martin
