Re: Morasko=Rust Bucket
Hello Matt, hello list,
this "word of caution" just made me think: wouldn´t it be useful for
collectors or potential buyers to have a more comprehensive list of
irons or stony irons enumerated here that are SIGNIFICANTLY more
susceptible to rust than the average specimen under the same conditions
of conservation in a collection is? It may depend on many factors, of
course, e.g. from where inside a larger meteorite a specimen is cut (as
is the case with the CAPE YORK iron), and how it is prepared, and so on,
but is there some sort of a generally accepted
rust-susceptibility-hitlist for meteorites, at least for the more
well-known locations?
To my knowledge the LAMONT mesosiderite is one of those candidates, the
NANTAN iron, and also the BRENHAM and, someone told me, the BRAHIN
pallasites. Other typical candidates to name here?
