Re: Happy Canyon an EL7?
Alexander,
In the best paper I have seen on the subject of classifying E chondrites
titled 'Shock metamorphism of enstatite chondrites' (GCA Vol 61,
pp847-858, 1997), Rubin, Scott, and Keil (re)classify 60 of them. None
of them were classified as petrologic type 7 but Happy Canyon was
classified as an EL melt breccia (dropping the "impact" terminology).
Abee and Adhi Kot were both classified as EH melt breccias while the
meteorites Ilafegh 009 and QUE94204 were classified as EL and EH melt
rock, respectively. There was no known type EL4 at the date of
publication, maybe there is now. And just to add a note on Yilmia, often
sold as EL5, it has been reclassified as EL6 for some years now. Hope
this helps.
