Halite is very soluble. If a meteorite were on the ground for a few
days or got wet, the salt would probably dissolve. Even morning dew 
would probably dissolve the external crystals.

I wonder where the salt comes from - I thought Chloride ions were
relatively rare in meteorites.

On the other hand, if this is common, it may account a little for some
porosity in chondrites?
