on november 11, 1836, several head of cattle were killed by the macau
chondrite in brazil.
on may 4, 1998 martin horejsi correctly pointed out that in the new
phillips catalog the image of claxton that appears on page 36 is
incorrectly labeled lot 108 (it's lot 102)
which brings me to the following...
it seems that many of you thought that you didn't get back to me quickly
enough for a free catalog--at least that's what most respondents indicated.
well, we have 15 more catalogs, and so at risk of being redundant...
The next "Phillips Natural History Sale" will take place at 1:00 P.M. on
Sunday, May 17th. Attendance is not necessary to participate. You may
register an absentee bid, or participate in the bidding while on the phone
with Phillips' personnel.

forty lots covering the spectrum of natural history in this offering
including: the largest complete animal (an anolis lizard) in amber; the

branches); the largest complete slice of petrified wood from Arizona; a
giant complete slice of the Esquel pallasite that was the adjoining slice
to the specimen analyzed by a team of UCLA researchers (see the March,
1998, Meteoritics and Planetary Science); a 200+ pound Sikhote-Alin
individual; a host of wondrous fossils; exceptional minerals & fluorescent
minerals; cut stones; stone age tools; and dozens of other curiosities.

METEORITES
I hope that you will be especially pleased with the array of meteorites
assembled for both the beginning and sophisticated collector. Many
outstanding meteorites will be auctioned without reserves, which is to say
that regardless of where the bidding stops, the specimen will be sold to
the highest bidder. Meteorites without reserves include: Novo Urei,
Winona, Claxton, Pasamonte, Tucson, Kenna, Steinbach, Marjalahti, select
Gibeons, and a small piece of Governador Valadares. Other notable
meteorites include a beautiful partial slice of Tambo Quemado, a 21 kg
endpiece of Laguna Manantiales, A near-complete slice of Naiman--and so
much more.
A description of all the lots can be found by selecting the "Phillips
Auction" link at www.theskyisfalling.com
LIMITED NUMBER OF FREE CATALOGUES
If you intend to participate in the auction and desire a catalogue,
and you're among the first 20 individuals to reply to this email with your
name and address, you will receive a catalogue free of charge.
If you do not intend to participate in the auction, please refrain
from participating in this free offering. We ask that you do this in
fairness to those who wish to take part--and in fairness to Phillips and
myself. So please only take advantage of this offer after having reviewed
the lots @ www.theskyisfalling.com
You may participate by submitting a bid on the items desired. Just call
Phillips toll free at (800) 825-2781 and provide the attendant with the lot
number of the item(s) and the amount(s) you wish to bid or, fax an
"Absentee Bid Form" which appears with the descriptions at the Sky Is
Falling web site.
When providing an absentee bid, Phillips will act as your
representative and secure the item for you at the lowest possible price up
to the amount of your bid. For example, if you bid $450 on an item where
the last bid recorded was $350, you would not pay $450, but the next
bidding interval after $350--which is $375. For those of you who are
interested in the catalogue primarily as an archival reference, they can be
purchased for $25 prior to the sale and $10 following the sale. Again,
each lot is fully described by selecting the Phillips' link at
www.theskyisfalling.com.
Finally, please don't hesitate to get in touch should you have any
questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Darryl Pitt
