On the territory of the Republic Turkmenistan at the latitude - 42 grad=20
15' N, longitude 59 grad. 10' East, near the town of Koneurgench (100=20
km from Toshauz city) a great meteorite fall took place on June, 20=20
1998 at 17:25 local time. A bright orange bolid was observed moving=20
from the south-west to north-east; an explosion took place at a height=20
of 10-15 km, the black smoke hiding the Sun, and thunder was heard 100=20
km far from the place of the event. The track left was triple.

A meteoritic crater 5-6 m wide and 4 m deep was found; fragments
scattered around may have a total weight of 40 kg. At the bottom of the=20
crater a cone-shaped meteorite was found. Its estimated parameters are:
length: 80 cm;
width: 70-60cm;
mass: 300-500 kg.
The meteorite is of iron-rock type (the rock component is crushed). The=20
compound is inhomogeneous.

The two other possible fragments of the meteorite are being searched=20
for now.
