Hi Folks,
About the price of Monahans, bear in mind that there are TWO pieces of
Monahans. The City of Monahans still has the other piece, and it is
possible the other piece, or portions of it, will be on the market eventually.
If you want to pay $50-$100 a gram for Monahans, then go ahead. I personally
think that $50+/gram is way overpriced for Monahans, particulary with
the fragile nature of the blue crystals. Even with the blue crystals,
the Monahans meteorite is still nevertheless a common stony chondrite.
The actual selling price will be dictated by supply and demand.
The meteorite dealers will jack up the prices as high as they can to maximize
their profits, while the meteorite collectors will want to get it as low as
possible. Since there are two large piece of Monahans, it would be
prudent to have a little patience and see what the actual prices will bear.
