That would seem to be a possibility, only that the bacteria were trapped
between two lenses in a tiny pocket of air. Since the lenses weren't
opened until the return to Earth, it is possible that we have a sort of
terrestrial contamination after the return to Earth. There is an
interesting new idea, known as Exospermia, that life has been carried
into space by urine dumps and it might be on a journey through the Solar
System. This is difficult to take seriously.
