I totally spaced when writing my meteorite pricing paragraph:
While one cannot typically compare the price per unit weight of a large
specimen to that of a small specimen, I wanted to illustrate that Phillips
violated the rule by keeping the per gram price the same for the both the
20 and 1400 gram specimens. ($40/gram)
I also forgot to include another entire thought--the price quote that
inspired the joke: when Michael Cottingham offered his 560 gram Portales
specimen for $25,000, several of the subsequent posts dealt with runaway
prices....hence the joke that anyone can quote any price--but that doesn't
make it real.
(I need to not write when suffering jet-lag.)
(And could it be that the meteorite hunter was shot by a fellow meteorite
hunter?)
