Re: more Portales pics

Michael sent me about a dozen photos of his meteorites, all I can say is that
they are spectaular specimens.  The metal veins are not that intriguing or
unusual in H chondrites, I have a few examples of large veins, so that is no
surprise.  The olivine (if that is what it is), is unusual, for its apparent
size.  Olivine does occur in most ordinary chondrites, just not in big crystals
like what may be in Portales.  I think it is unusual for that reason. It is
possible that this H5 or 6 or whatever it is, had a slow crystallization
history, thus the large crystals.  It may be an H like we have never seen so
far. Just my thoughts.
