Re: Flight 800 Meteor report
According to the early NTSB reports I read, meteorites were ruled out
because of the statistical impossibility of that having been the cause.
Eliminating one possible cause freed up resources for closer examination
of other possible factors. Believe it or not the investigation did
operate on a budget, based primarily on “people resources” rather than
on financial restrictions.
Do you remember what Boeings reaction was to the NTSB/ FBI/ FAA
animation created to explain the time lag and apparent streaks of light
coming up to the plane?
Of all the theories so far presented, each was plausible up to a point.
All of the theories, except one, come into conflict with evidence at
some point.
Mechanical failure ( fuel pump) ignores witnesses on the shore. From
the L.I.newspapers accounts there seem to have be around 75 people or so
who saw something. Many of those also reported hearing the explosion,
which would have been impossible given their distance from the accident.
My only point is that until a cause is definitely pinned down it is not
wise to exclude anything ( except Pierre S. of course Ha,Ha). and that
the meteor theory still is the only one that cannot be disproved on the
basis of information available to the general public.
National Aviation experts?
fuel pump placed inside the wing to avoids the inherent leaks and
maintenance problems connected with openings made in the tank.
submerged pump is more efficient.
I have an submerged electric fuel pump in my car, an Audi, and I haven’t
blown up yet. Though I haven’t been hit by a meteorite either.
