RE:
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to remove rust and
caliche (carbonate) from regmaglypts of irons such as Canyon Diablo and
Odessa, besides the usual method of a wire brush. Any help would be
appreciated!
Hi Matt,
I have soaked Canon Diablo specimens in concentrated Sulfuric Acid
(H2SO4) before with good success. A specimen soaked for about 5-15
minutes comes out look shiny like a wire brushed specimen except the
rough texture of the weathered metal remains and seems unaffected.
Good luck, and be careful with the acid.
Martin
