I would recommend slicing off a very thin portion od the meteorite and THEN
sanding it down, starting with an 80 grit then moving progressively to a
400 or so. If you do this by hand it will take a while, I use an
expandable drum sander and it takes me only 2-5 minutes to get a good
finish. Gaos do look especially good with a thin coating of Krylon, it
gives them a 3-D appearance. Hope this helps!
