(Disclamer: I probably missed some stuff, so caveat emptor).

2nd Edition (2Ed) has the same number of pages as the 1st, but is about
10 percent thicker. I was lucky enough to get the gentleman and lady
themselves to sign my copy and Richard stated they used a heavier paper
(Richards salutation to my copy reads "Caution! The subject of this
book is contagious!" Quite!). Although the pages number the same,
those pages that were partially blank in the 1Ed are now generally
full. There has been a fair amount of rearrangeing of paragraph
headings and such to compensate

The cover now gives Dorothy Norton her due as illustrator. It also
proclaims "Second Edition" and "Revised & Updated".

The most obvious differences are numerous new photographs and
illustrations (includeing some fine B&W renderings of Dorothy Nortons
paintings as well as some of her amuseing cartoons).

The preface to the 1st edition is included, and a new preface for the
2nd edition has also been written.

Chapter three has a short blurb on the 1997 perseids. Chapter 4
includes a more current discussion of the meteorite market and change in
prices since the discovery of ALH 84001.

Page 145 has a fascinating picture of elliptical craters in Argentina
not included in the 1Ed.

Chapter 10 has been much revised to reflect current thinking regarding
chondrite petrology, with the inclusion of R chondrites and revision of
the classification of EH condrites. Several photomicrographs of thin
sections have been included. There is new discussion of ALH84001 as
well as results of the Mars Pathfinder Mission, includeing the
obligatory photo of the mars rover going mano a mano with "Yogi".

Chapter 11 has expanded info on the SNC meteorites and ALH84001.

Chapter 20 has some updated info on Walter Alvarez's work on the
Chicxulub crater.

Synopsis: A fine revision of an already excellent book.
