Hi GeoZay,
There was someone selling a Caroliner (or Carolina) Meteorites from Kentucky
at some of the Rocks and Gem Shows in the midwest. At one show some of my
meteorite collecting friends took a close look at these and tried to tell the
woman selling them that they were rocks. She was argumentive about it. I
believe that she thought they were the real thing but didn't know what a real
meteorite was. I was contacted by one of the Gem Show promoters and asked about
it and back the collectors who saw the specimens as they know what a meteorite
looks like have many in their collections.
Meteoroids are found in space and are potential meteors. Meteorites are meteors
that make it to the ground. Meteor showers are normally not associated with
Meteorites but rather are cometary debris streams. Meteorites are associated
with asteroid material or in a few rare cases Mars and lunar material.
