Hi everyone,
For those interested in the formation of solar systems there is a very good
article in the current (March 98) Sky & Tel that gives a macro view of the
process with respect to our system compared to the recently discovered extra
solar planets. It gives a popular treatment of the dynamic forces involved and
suggests that our current system may simply be the last stage of a process
that originated with more planets than we currently have, the others migrating
into the sun or being flung out of the system.
As with every advance in science, it leaves you with more questions than
answers, but we are just now developing the ability to see solar system
formation on a comparative basis. I'm sure there will be many more findings
and questions in the future.
Gene
P.S. I haven't forgotten the discussions on meteorite collecting and potential
obstacles. When I get a little more time I'll get something together.
