El Paso fireball

I went down to Mexico to check out a large dry lake bed just across
the border that holds promise for meteorite hunting. I stopped at the
Antelope Wells port of entry (FYI, the oldest in the US) down in the
bootheel of NM south of Lordsberg and spoke with the US Customs guy
there. He stated he saw the fireball explode and observed "smoke" for
abouty 40 minutes afterward. He called it in as a downed airplane.
Antelope Wells is about 130 miles WSW of El Paso. I shot a (very) rough
azimuth in the direction he indicated which was between 2 peaks and got
64deg, which seems about right. If anyone is researching this they may
want to call the US Customs Station Port of Entry at Antelope Wells, NM
and ask to speak to Charlie. These guys are REALLY out in the middle of
nowhere, as Antelope Wells consists of 2 houses and the border crossing,
about 90 miles from the nearest town (and thats only got 600 people).
They seemed glad to talk about what they saw. Come to think of it, they
seemed glad to talk to anybody about anything.
