Re: Hamada du Draa

Hello All,

Regarding the meteorite Hamada du Draa, I agree with Serguei. I have also
heard of this meteorite as Homedo du Drua.

I've been wondering if the meteorite called Mhamid is the same locality as
Hamada du Draa. Maybe Walt R. can shed some light on this subject. I
noticed a picture of a 1.5 kg crusted fragment of Mhamid pictured on Allan
Lang's site found at:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/meteorite/

To see the picture, click on the button for Mhamid. If the specimens
discussed above are one-in-the-same, then I've heard it classified as an
L5, an L6, an L5-6, an H5, and an H5-6. Also, the TKW has been listed as 70
kg to 200 kg, and as both a fall and a find.

I got a hold of a 100g fragment and even wondered at first if it was more
Mt. Tazerzait. Upon closer inspection, it does appear different.

There are several meteorite dealers who frequent this list who have also
sold this Algerian meteorite. Maybe they have more information they could
share with us.

Martin
