Assume you intend to study the geomorphology of Death Valley (deserts) as an
analog to certain Martian surface morphologies, which you will also need to
study using Viking imagery. Fairly certain this has been done before
(suspect NASA has). If you coincide fieldwork with the search for
paleontological records... might be worth the trip.
